How the verdict is decided

A recommendation, not a guess

Most "which Claude plan" advice is a static comparison table or someone's subjective take. This tool asks what actually decides the answer instead: for an individual, your typical daily hours, whether that load is steady or bursty, and whether you run subagents in parallel; for a team, headcount and how heavily the group leans on it. Pro, Max 5x, and Max 20x are the same models and the same Claude Code access - the only real difference is room inside the same two usage budgets, as the Pro plan usage limits breakdown lays out.

A verdict here is a starting point, not a locked-in decision. If you're already on a plan and wondering whether the jump to Max is worth it, see whether the Max plan is actually worth it, or project your own headroom directly with the usage limit calculator using a baseline from your real sessions.

Plan picker FAQ

About the recommendation

How is this different from Anthropic's own plan chooser?

Anthropic's "Choose a Claude plan" article lists what each tier includes, but it's a static page - it doesn't know your hours, your burstiness, or whether you fan work out across subagents. This wizard turns those three answers (or your team's size and intensity) into one verdict instead of leaving you to eyeball a comparison table.

Where do these prices come from?

Checked directly against claude.com/pricing and support.claude.com on 2026-08-21: Pro is $20/mo ($17/mo annual), Max 5x is $100/mo, Max 20x is $200/mo, Team Standard seats are $25/mo monthly ($20/mo annual) for 2 to 150 people, Team Premium seats are $125/mo monthly ($100/mo annual, 5x a Standard seat's usage), and Enterprise is $20/seat plus usage billed at API rates.

Does Anthropic publish an exact message or token limit per plan?

No. Anthropic confirms every tier runs on a rolling 5-hour window plus a separate weekly allotment, without stating an exact message or token figure for either - see the Pro plan usage limits breakdown for the full check against its docs. That's why this wizard's verdict is a fit recommendation, not a promised capacity number; /usage inside Claude Code is the one number about your account that's actually real.

I'm not sure how many hours I actually spend - what should I pick?

Pick "Not sure." Every question in this wizard resolves an unsure answer to the cheaper, lighter option on purpose, the same way the honesty rule above works: better to under-recommend and point you at your real /usage numbers than talk you into a bigger plan than you can confirm you need.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is UsageCut really free?

Yes. The scan and every fix are free - no card, no subscription, no signup. You only give an email if you want the optimization plan and one-command undo sent to your inbox.

Is my code safe? Does UsageCut upload anything?

The scan runs entirely on your machine. It never uploads your code, never reads your API key, and never sends your prompts or conversations anywhere. Only anonymous summary counts leave, and only if you choose to share them.

How does it reduce Claude Code token usage?

It reads your local setup and session history to find waste - idle MCP servers loaded into every session, an oversized CLAUDE.md re-sent on every request, duplicate file reads, and bloated tool output - then trims it losslessly, so each session carries less context and you hit your limit far less often.

What is ClockedCode?

ClockedCode is the curated, conflict-free Claude Code setup from the same maker. UsageCut makes your current setup leaner; ClockedCode makes it genuinely better - a set of hand-picked tools, specialist agents, and a tuned CLAUDE.md, installed in one paste.

Who is ClockedCode for?

Developers who use Claude Code daily and want a setup that is powerful out of the box instead of spending hours researching and wiring up plugins, agents, and MCP servers themselves.

What's included in ClockedCode?

A vetted, conflict-free bundle of hand-picked tools, specialist agents, and a tuned CLAUDE.md - everything installed together in one paste, with no setup archaeology.

Is ClockedCode a one-time payment?

Yes. ClockedCode is a one-time purchase with an instant download - no subscription and no recurring fees.

Does ClockedCode work with my existing setup?

Yes. It installs alongside what you already have and is fully reversible. Run UsageCut first to clean your current setup, then add ClockedCode to level it up.
