Where Team wins: several people, uneven usage
Team's advantage shows up when headcount, not one person's ceiling, is the actual driver. Say four developers on a team each use Claude Code for a normal workday - not maxing out a session, just regular daily coding. Four Team Standard seats run $100/month total (or $80 billed annually) and each person gets 1.25x Pro's room on their own clock. Covering the same four people on Max 5x costs $400/month, four times as much, for a multiplier none of them are close to needing.
The moment usage is spread across people instead of concentrated in one account, per-seat pricing wins simply because you're buying four smaller buckets instead of paying for one large one four separate people don't fill. Where Max wins: one person, heavy and consistent
Max wins the moment one account needs more room than Team's own ceiling allows, and that ceiling is a hard one: Team Premium's 6.25x is the most usage a single Team seat can buy, full stop. There's no seat tier above Premium. A developer who genuinely needs 20x Pro's room - long migrations, several subagents running in parallel, all-day pairing - can't reach that on Team at any price. Only Max 20x gets there, and at $10 per unit it's also the cheapest way to buy that much room, Team included.
